Not of this Wold - A Day of the Strange, Supernatural and Mysterious

Not of this Wold - a day festival celebrating everything that is strange, supernatural and mysterious. Brought to you by Occultaria ofAlbion, Burials and Beyond and Louth Town Hall.

A full day of the weird, eerie and enigmatic featuring The Market of the Weird in the Ballroom and talks in the Chamber covering the ghostly, eerie and enigmatic.

The evening session starts with a performance from the Occultaria of Albion, Master of the Weird, followed by a screening of a classic film from the archives of the weird and supernatural and then a live music concert by The Heartwood Institute.

Also in the evening there will be limited number access to Louth Town Hall for your Paranormal Investigations (the Town Hall is rumoured to be haunted by multiple ghosts and presences).

Talk: The Wollaton Gnomes with Kate Rae - 11am

In 1979, a group of schoolchildren happened upon a large group of gnomes at the edge of Wollaton Park. The curious case of the Wollaton Gnomes is somewhat ludicrous on the face of it, but delving little deeper, we find one of the UKs most well documented fairy encounters in modern times.

Bio: Kate Rae is a paranormal investigator, researcher, writer, podcaster, and author. She regularly writes for Haunted Magazine, has contributed to supernatural projects under Pwca publishing and Fae Magazine. She gives talks about a range of paranormal subjects at conferences in the UK, as well as appearing on shows like Help My House is Haunted and Weird Britain. Kate has an interest spanning the world of the weird but focuses on the spooky side of the fairies.

Talk: Haunted Lincs with Kate Cherrell - 12.30pm

Lincolnshire is a county rich with history, folklore, and more ghosts than you can shake a plum loaf at. Over the centuries, Lincolnshire has played host to countless infamous and bizarre hauntings, from poltergeists in Grimsby to green ladies in Louth and a haunting in Epworth that was so potent, it influenced the founding of the Methodist Church! This light-hearted and informative talk is a crash-course through the haunted history of our wonderful county.

Bio: Dr Kate Cherrell is a Lincolnshire writer and speaker specialising in paranormal history. She is the author of Begotten (2025) and writes commercially on supernatural history. As a paranormal historian, she has co-hosted Haunted Homecoming with Jack Osbourne and Jonathan Ross (Discovery, 2022, 2024) and Unexplained: Caught on Camera (Discovery, 2023), and has provided historical expertise on upcoming television shows for the BBC, Discovery and National Geographic.

Talk: Myths and Music with Matt Tango Ellerby - 2.30pm

This musical talk delves into the dark and mysterious folklore of Lincolnshire. Featuring ghostly tales, eerie songs and an exploration of traditional practices devised to appease the supernatural beings said to inhabit the fens.

Bio: Matt Tango Ellerby is a Lincolnshire born and bred artist, musician, songwriter, TEDx speaker and song of Lincolnshire folk competition finalist. Matt has been working on a project writing songs based on Lincolnshire stories, telling of its landscapes, history, people, myths, legends and traditions. This led to Matt being successfully accepted to be a speaker at TEDx Brayford Pool in September 2022. A finalist of the song of Lincolnshire folk competition 2022, 2023 and 2024, Matt has also had compositions featured as a part of the soundscape for the Grimsby Creates 'MyFishGY' collaborative artwork projection event at the Fishing Heritage Centre in February 2023.

The Paranormal Investigation

From 7:00pm and limited to 10 people - tickets £30

Access to public and non-public areas of the Town Hall for your own paranormal investigation from 7.00pm to 11.00pm. Areas for investigation include the roof void (where the spectre of a suffragette who disrupted a speech by Lloyd George is rumoured to be confied for eternity, the cellar (where tunnels were rumoured to originate to the market square and church where ghosts of members of the Louth Rebellion are rumoured to roam, the condemned cell - the police cell rumoured to have housed those awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of murder, the main stairs, where the ghost of an airman thrown from the landing hit the steps cuasing fatal injuries, the Chamber where the ghost of a young boy is rumoured to inhabit the corner of the stage and the toilets and landing where a vision of an aged gentlemen in a flat cap has been regularly seen.
